The Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Revenue, Myron Frans, was the guest speaker at Drinking Liberally on Thursday, April 11th. It was a lively hour — really — and the Commissioner did a great job of explaining where state and local governments get the revenue they need and how the tax system has changed in the last decade. He didn’t bring his famous unbalanced stool, though.

In addition to a discussion tax revenues generally, the Commissioner also answered questions about the current e-tabs revenue shortfall for the Viking stadium, the Mayo Clinic project, and whether a flat tax was a good idea (no).
