Latest Spotty ™ winner has read Charles Dickens
There was a letter in the May 24th paper edition of the Strib complaining about the Edina schools’ focus on social justice:
Edina teachers should be transmitting knowledge. Edina students should be learning calculus and reading Dickens.
Any classroom time spent on “social justice” issues takes away from academics. [the letter continues]
Obviously, this letter is not the Spotty™ winner. But I thought to myself: somebody is going to win a Spotty™ responding to this one. And sure enough, here it is:
I was amused by the letter writer who wants Edina schools to stop talking about social justice issues and read Dickens instead. Apparently, this person has never read Dickens.
Naomi Jackson
[Not with the smallest degree of comprehension, anyway, Naomi.]
There were multiple letters that made the point, but I was impressed with the bluntness of this one. Naomi proves you don’t have to be wordy to win a Spotty™.
Remember, a Spotty™ is awarded for an op-ed, letter to the editor, or a blog post or comment that I wish I had written myself.
Thanks for your feedback. If we like what you have to say, it may appear in a future post of reader reactions.
