Trump’s ICE goons in Minnesota
It occurred to me that I haven’t seen much about Trump’s ICE asshole thugs here in Minnesota. So I spent some time yesterday trying to find out how many undocumented immigrants are being arrested in Minnesota, where that’s most frequently happening (or not), etc.
I found this in a Star Tribune article, dated July 20. The quote is from the Google blurb; the story itself is paywalled, or at least it was for me.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents made 878 arrests in the state between Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20 and June 26
.
According to this, from the Minnesota Reformer, there were about 112,000 ICE arrests nationally in roughly the same time period. So Minnesota had about seventy-eight hundredths of one percent of the national total as of late June. I haven’t seen anything to indicate a big increase in arrests in the state since then. But apparently there is a significant delay in ICE making its numbers public.
Clearly, Minnesota is not one of the states being targeted with a lot of “resources,” at least not yet. I find that a little surprising as we’re one of only two states in the region (along with Illinois) that has electorally spurned Trump twice. His childishly petty, vindictive approach to everything is no secret. Incidentally, Trump’s approval numbers on immigration, as with everything else, are crashing.
I’ll keep an eye on this. No doubt others are doing so as well.
Comment from Joe Musich: I would not be surprised if the National Guard troops being sent to DC through the red state gov orders become lardollini’s “army of the willing” down the road. I have zero evidence of course. Ironically Gov Mike DeWine of the the Four Dead State is among them saying,”it’s the right thing to do”…ugh.
