A little pandemic doggerel

We are Blue and they are Red,
To them it’s fine if we are dead,
And all their Kith and Kin as well,
They’d send us all to virus hell.

They’d send us all to virus hell.

Trump’s the worst; it must be said,
He sucked his thumb as virus spread,
Trump places blame on folks elsewhere,
To cover up his derrière.

They’d send us all to virus hell.

But Trump is not the only one,
Such foul deeds could not be done,
Without the help of many flunkies,
Chattering claques of thoughtless monkeys.

They’d send us all to virus hell.

Flunky one is Paul Gazelka,
A poisonous blot of salmonella,
To Paul, it’s all academic,
Click you heels and no pandemic!

They’d send us all to virus hell.

Let’s not o’rlook the plaid car salesman,
A hardened lump of pure bitumen,
That nasty bit of Christian pompous,
Which substitutes for his conscience.

They’d send us all to virus hell.

There’s a host of others we could name,
But out of kindness we’ll refrain,
We know the names; we won’t forget,
They’ll just be poison epithet.

They’d send us all to virus hell.

We can and should ignore these creeps,
And laugh at all their servile peeps,
While remembering that our faithful task
Is just to wear our simple mask.

To avoid going to virus hell.

This is a poem in progress. If you have a favorite character or event in the drama, let me know.

Update 12/15: Paul Gazelka announced that his mother-in-law died of COVID-19 and that his father-in-law has it, but he proposed again ending the governor’s pandemic order in a special session yesterday. It makes the first stanza a little prescient, doesn’t it?

Thanks for your feedback. If we like what you have to say, it may appear in a future post of reader reactions.
