Drinking Liberally-Minneapolis programming until the election
Drinking Liberally in Minneapolis, a political club of which I am a host, has a series of great programs scheduled between now and the election. Drinking Liberally meets at the 331 Club, 331 – 13th Avenue N.E., that’s the corner of 13th and University Avenues N.E.

Saturday, September 26th– a special night for DL – we’ll be hosting a group of Living Liberally (DL’s ‘parent’) leaders from around the country at a special meeting at the 331 Club. J. Patrick Coolican, managing editor of the Minnesota Reformer, one of our favorite guests, and last year’s MSPJ Journalist of the Year, will be our guest again that evening. We’re happy to have these chapter leaders come to town and then report back to their chapters that Minneapolis is not a smoked-out urban hellscape. We hope you will all join us in helping show our visitors a good time.
Doug Chapin (see the October 8th program below), candidate for the Sixth Congressional District – running against Tom Emmer – has promised to stop by to say hello on the meeting on Saturday.
Note again, it is Saturday, not our usual Thursday. We’ll be at the 331 Club at our usual time, six to nine PM, but the program with Patrick will begin at 7:30 PM, a half-hour later than usual. There will be no regular Drinking Liberally on Thursday the 24th, but it wouldn’t be surprising if a few people showed up, anyway. It isn’t prohibited, and the migratory instinct is strong this time of year.

Thursday, October 1st – DFL candidate for state auditor, Zack Filipovich, will be our guest. Zack is, mirabile dictu, an accountant, unlike his opponent, last cycle’s unsuccessful candidate for governor, Dr. Scott Jensen, who believes that numbers are overrated, as are vaccines.
Gathering time: 6-9 PM, program at 7 PM
Thursday, October 8th – DFL candidate for the Sixth District in Congress, Doug Chapin, will be our guest. Doug’s assignment is to take Tom Emmer’s seat in Congress. The absent Tom is, of course, one of senior squires to the Trump-malleable Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson.

Thursday, October 15th – We are working a program regarding the current initiative in the Minneapolis School Board to close a dozen or more Minneapolis schools. Stay tuned for more information about that.
Thursday, October 22nd – Executive Director of the New Justice Project, Rod, Adams, will be our guest. Rod has followed the race for Hennepin County Attorney between Cedrick Fraizer and Anders Folk closely. He wrote a critical article about Anders Folk that you can read in the Racket. (That’s a gift link; it opens the article at the comments at the bottom, so you will have to scroll up to the top to start at the beginning.)
Gathering time: 6-9 PM, program at 7 PM
Thursday, October 29th – This is the traditional last-Thursday-before-the-election Drinking Liberally GOTV pep fest. Guests to be determined, but we’ll have one or two candidates, some information about registering at the polls, potential voting interference, and some call and response to get the election protection phone number back into your memory. The gathering time is the same, but where the program will be in that window is to be determined.
