Waiting for Dario, question 13
Here is question 13 of the unanswered questions put to Dario Anselmo. (You can read the other unanswered published ones, so far, here.)
Do you think [human] life starts at and must be protected from moment of fertilization, and if so, do you believe hormonal birth control, emergency contraception medication, and IUDs cause abortions?
This question is being put to a number of Republican candidates for the legislature in addition to Dario Anselmo. It is particularly apt and important because the Republican candidate for governor, Jeff Johnson, said he would sign any new abortion restrictions that came across his desk. Johnson is the Biblical principles candidate, according to Lynn Torgenson, the founder of Christians United in Politics. (That link is to a Facebook page.)
As an interesting aside, my friends who live in Hennepin County, Christians United in Politics is a group “liked” by judge candidate Beverly Aho. So much for the separation of church and state.
This is probably a good time to remind everyone that long-time Edina Representative Ron Erhardt, back in the day, was the last pro-choice Republican in the Minnesota Legislature. Such a creature no longer exists, of course.
I don’t know about the rest of you — well, really, I think I do — but I have no interest in reliving those thrilling days of yesteryear — the sessions in 2011 and 2012 — when all the Republicans could talk about was guns, gay marriage, and suppressing voters.
Hiring Dario Anselmo would just provide another Republican caucus vote to drag us through that whole thing again.
Thanks for your feedback. If we like what you have to say, it may appear in a future post of reader reactions.
